Sakari Oramo

Sakari Oramo Markus ( born October 26, 1965 in Helsinki) is a Finnish conductor.

Oramo was originally a violinist and conductor of the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra. In 1989 he enrolled for the class of Jorma Panula Conducting at the Sibelius Academy. Soon after his training, he jumped successfully for an ailing conductor of the Radio Symphony Orchestra. Then he was later appointed chief conductor deputy chief conductor of the orchestra. He also worked in Finland with the ensemble Avanti! .

In 1998 he became the successor of Simon Rattle, principal conductor of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra ( CBSO ), 1999 he was promoted to director of music. With CBSO he led, among other things, the music John Foulds ' on and released this also on recordings. Since 2008 he has been the CBSO only connected as a guest conductor, in September 2008, he became chief conductor and artistic director of the Swedish Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in Stockholm. His contract was initially for three years and was extended from 2011 to 2015.

In February 2012 it was announced that Oramo will be 2013 Chief Conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra from summer. The contract with the London-based band was signed for three years with an extension option for another two years. Also in February 2012, it took over Oramo short notice to step in in the ongoing concert tour by the Vienna Philharmonic through Scandinavia for the ailing 81 -year-old Lorin Maazel as a conductor. Consequently, the anticipated 2013 debut of Oramo was conducting the Vienna Philharmonic a year earlier and in particular circumstances. Oramo conducted the concerts in Helsinki, Copenhagen and Aalborg (DK), in which the Vienna Philharmonic took three symphonies of Jean Sibelius ( the 7th, the 5th, and the first, in that order) on three consecutive evenings for performance.

Oramo is married to the Finnish soprano Anu Komsi, the couple has two sons.
