Sakari Salminen

Sakari Salminen (born 31 May 1988 in Pori ) is a Finnish professional ice hockey player who is since May 2013 in Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod in the Kontinental Hockey League contract.

Career

Salminen began his career as a hockey player in his hometown of Pori, where he played in the youth department of porin Ässät. He went through many ages of the association and was from the 2005/06 season in parallel for the U18 and U20 selection on the ice. With the U18 team this year, he was runner-up.

In the 2007 /08 season Salminen made ​​his professional debut in the SM- liiga, where he in his rookie season 30 games for porin Ässät completed and scored 13 points scorer. At the same time he scored in twelve games with the U20 team 23 points and was elected to the second All- Star team. In the play-offs, he helped the team to win the runner-up in the Finnish A-Juniors.

After two more years with porin in the SM- liiga Ässät Salminen joined in April 2010 to league rivals KalPa. There he was able to improve its yield point and ended the seasons 2010/11 and 2011/12 with 45 and 47 points respectively as top scorer of the team. Also in the play-offs, he was the most points each player of his team.

In the 2012/13 season Salminen succeeded to break through for the first time the mark of a point per game. With 55 points from 54 games, he was once again the best scorer of his team and the fourth best in the league. He was then appointed to the All- Star team of the SM - liiga.

In May 2013, the Finn moved to Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod in the Continental Hockey League.

Internationally

Sakari Salminen represented Finland for the first time at the U20 Junior World Championship 2008, where he obtained four points in six missions.

At the World Championship 2013 in Finland he was in the squad of men's national team, scoring three points in ten games.
