Sakıp Sabancı

Sakıp Sabancı ( born April 7, 1933 Akcakaya in Kayseri, † April 10, 2004 in Istanbul ) was a famous Turkish Industrialists and philanthropist from the Sabancı family of entrepreneurs.

Sakıp Sabancı founded after the death of his father, the company founder Hacı Ömer Sabancı, in 1967 the Sabancı Holding, which in addition to Turkish companies several minority and majority interests of world famous companies include such as IBM, Dresdner Bank, Masterfoods, Nestle, Toyota.

Sakıp Sabancı established many social institutions in Turkey, including a university, schools, kindergartens, villages, schools for the disabled and a social pension fund belong. He was, among other things one of the greatest patrons of the arts of Turkey and had a significant collection of Ottoman calligraphy. The bulk of his art collection is on display in the Sakıp Sabancı Müzesi in Istanbul.

In 1992 he was awarded the Japanese Order of the Sacred Treasure Gold and Silver Star (2nd class).

Sabancı died of a kidney tumor and left a fortune of 2.65 billion euros. The industrialist was performed during his lifetime on the Forbes list of the richest people in the world at number 147.
