Sala (architecture)

A Sala ( Thai: ศาลา ) is an open pavilion, he is not only in a Wat ( a Buddhist temple in Thailand) as a sunscreen and meeting place.

These buildings are usually open on all sides, at best, they are leaning to one side to the Kampheng Kaeo. They usually serve worldly needs: In the country, travelers can use them eg as night. In this case they are called Sala Asai. If the temple is situated on a Khlong (canal), the mooring of boats are often covered. Passengers can wait for the boat in a Sala Nam ( = " water pavilion ").

In some temples, there is a large open hall in which the laity hear sermons or may attend their daily religious instruction. It is called Sala Kan Parian, literally " hall, studying in the monks for their Parian examination ".
