The Salem Township is one of 12 townships in Carroll County in the northwestern part of the U.S. state of Illinois.

Geography

The Salem Township is located north-west of Illinois 20 km east of the Mississippi River, which forms the border with Iowa. The border with Wisconsin is located about 50 km north.

The Salem Township is located at 42 ° 03'38 " north latitude and 89 ° 55'25 " west longitude and extends over 92.2 km ².

The Salem Township is located in the center of Carroll County and is bordered to the north by the Freedom Township, in the northeast on the Cherry Grove -Shannon Township, on the east by the Rock Creek -Lima Township, to the southeast by the Wysox Township, on the south by the Fair Haven Township, to the southwest by the York Township, on the west by the Mount Carroll Township and to the northwest by the Woodland Township.

Traffic

Due to the northern part of the Township runs in an east -west direction of U.S. Highway 52 on a common route with the Illinois State Route 64 in the north- west branches off from the highway, the Illinois State Route 40 to the southeast from. This branch is also its Northwestern endpoint. The western boundary of the Township is formed by the Illinois State Route 78. All other lines are County Roads and even more minor roads are paved only partly.

Through the Township run two railway lines leading from Chicago to the west.

The nearest airport is located around 25km west of Tri - Township Airport south of Savanna.
