Salif Keita (Senegalese footballer)

Salif Keita (born 19 October 1975, in Dakar ) is a Senegalese- Belgian footballer on the position of a striker.

He left his native Senegal at the age of 15 years to play football in Belgium. There he was at the chapels FC scorer of the second division and later with the KRC Genk champion and cup winner. In addition, he also adopted the Belgian nationality.

In 1999 he moved to Germany to second division club Hannover 96, for whom he scored eight goals in 48 games. After the rise of the 96 in the first Bundesliga 2002 Keita left the club and played for two years at second division 1 FC Union Berlin. After another year in the second division at Rot-Weiß Oberhausen Keita finally changed in 2005 to the Regionalliga Süd TuS Koblenz, for whom he scored 15 goals in 32 games Regional and thus contributed decisively to the rise in the second division. In the season 2006/ 07 Keita was then but little success (17 games, no goals ) and was recently often not in the squad. Keita was the end of the 2006/07 season an offer from the third division Union Berlin, where until 2004 he worked as a player already in 2002. He refused, however, and was initially without a club. In December 2007, he signed for a year at the Greek second division Pierikos Katerini.

2008 he moved to the Cypriot second division club Olympiakos Nicosia. In December 2008 he moved to first division side APEP Kyperounda where he stood until the end of the 2008/2009 season under contract. In summer 2009, Keita participated in the training part of the union of the contract footballers in Germany, to make himself interesting for new clubs. In September 2009, he signed in Dakar for the AS Douanes.
