Salt Lake Tabernacle

The Salt Lake Tabernacle (also Mormon Tabernacle ) is a building of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Temple Square in Utah's capital Salt Lake City. Until the completion of the conference center where the semi-annual general conference of the Church was held. The Mormon Tabernacle Choir performs and appears regularly in the tabernacle. The space can accommodate about 5,000 people.

Architectural History

The construction of the meeting house was begun in 1864 and completed in 1867. It was designed so that one speaker from each of the present without time not yet existing amplifier and speaker can be heard. The good room acoustics stems inter alia from the fact that the lime plaster larger amounts have been added pet hair, so the sound is better absorbed. An optimum reverberation time of 2.2 seconds, quite accurately achieved when about 2,500 listeners are present.

The tabernacle was appointed to the Landmark National Historic Landmark and a National Historic Civil Engineering.

From January 2005 to March 2007, the Tabernacle was renovated and rededicated on 31 March 2007 by President Gordon B. Hinckley.
