Sam Baird

Sam Baird ( born June 17, 1988 in Uffculme, Devon ) is an English snooker player.

Career

After Baird in 2007 won the Silver Waistcoat Tour, succeeded him in 2009 and the victory at the Golden Waistcoat Tour. He also won the 2008 Pontin's Business country 's U-21 series. His greatest triumph as an amateur was finally winning the EASB Pro Ticket Tour series in 2009, which earned him a spot on the Main Tour Snooker Season 2009/10.

His first victory as a professional he succeeded at the first event of Pro Challenge Series with a 4-3 victory over Jamie Cope. Throughout his debut season in the pros, he was able to qualify for a tournament for the round of last 32. Nevertheless, the qualification for the China Open 2010 with wins over Craig Steadman, Liu Song and Ian McCulloch a first moderate success he achieved. At the end of the season, his trip results still not sufficient for keeping them on the main tour.

The following season, Baird took ( again as an amateur ) at several tournaments in the PTC series 2010/11 part, but never came across the round of last 64. He also took part in the qualification for the World Snooker Championship in 2011, as one could sign up for this tournament as an amateur. With victories over the pros Reanne Evans, Thanawat Thirapongpaiboon and Alfred Burden he succeeded to the penultimate fourth qualifying round, in which he only narrowly lost with 9:10 Mike Dunn. Only the last black ball ruled the entire game.

By achieving the first place in the EASB Pro Ticket Tour 2010/11, to Baird finally managed to qualify for the Main Tour 2011/12 season again. He scored his best results in PTC Event 10 and the Welsh Open 2012 with the round of last 32 Also for the Haikou World Open reaching 2012, he was able to qualify for the final round, where he worked in the Wildcard round, however, against the former Main Tour player Jin Long defeated.

At the end of the 2011/12 season it was not enough to remain on the main tour for Baird. However, he failed to qualify directly for the first tournament of the Q School in 2012 as the winner of his group for the 2012/13 and 2013/14 season.

Private

Baird attended the comprehensive school in his birthplace of Uffculme. He finished his school career with the General Certificate of Secondary Education. He currently lives in Cullompton, a town of the county of Devon.
