Sam Bowie

Samuel ( Sam ) Paul Bowie ( born March 17 1961 in Lebanon ( Pennsylvania)) is a former American professional basketball player at the position of the center. Although Bowie was not a bad player, he was an especially as the player in the story, which was gedrafted between Hakeem Olajuwon and Michael Jordan.

At his high school, Bowie was one of the best high school player of all time. He averaged 28 points and 18 rebounds per game and was appointed as 1980 in the U.S. team for the Olympic Games. He is so far the last player with no experience as a college or professional player who was bestowed this honor. After three years and several leg injuries, he left the University of Kentucky to play in the NBA.

He participated in the 1984 Draft. To date, the 1984 vintage is regarded as possibly the best of the history. The first choice had the Houston Rockets, who chose the Nigerian Hakeem Olajuwon, who was later elected 12 times as an All -Star and is ranked among the 50 best players of all time. The second player were the Portland Trail Blazers select who opted for Bowie. The third team, the Chicago Bulls Michael Jordan chose the later five-time MVP, who led the Bulls to six championships. The later Allstars Charles Barkley, Alvin Robertson, Otis Thorpe, Kevin Willis and John Stockton were also to undertake in the '84 Draft. The decision of the Trail Blazers is one of the worst that has ever been made. Many experts were concerned with the question whether the Trail Blazers would have been Jordan with the dominant team of the 90s, as they were the better team at the time of the '84 Drafts compared to the Bulls. Nevertheless, the decision for Bowie at the time of the draft seemed reasonable, especially since the Trail Blazers had a shooting guard gedrafted in a class last year with Clyde Drexler. Also, it is not considered safe if the Bulls had not also decided to Bowie, they would have been the first choice. For his achievements in the first year as a pro Bowie was appointed team in the NBA All - Rookie.

After Bowie played four years with great injury problems for the Trail Blazers, scoring an average of 10.5 points per game, he was traded along with a 1989 draft pick to Buck Williams to the New Jersey Nets. There he completed his four successful seasons in which he was largely spared from injury, with an average of 12.8 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. After 1993, he moved to the Los Angeles Lakers, where he caught the injury problems, he came back in 1995 as a basketball player. Throughout his NBA career, he brought it to an average of 10.9 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.78 blocks and hit 30.2 % of his three-point throws.
