Sam Carr

Sam Carr ( born April 17, 1926 in Friar's Point, Mississippi; † 21 September 2009 in Clarksdale, Mississippi ) was an American blues drummer. He became famous for his lifelong collaboration with the harmonica player Frank Frost. His father is the blues guitarist Robert Nighthawk.

Life

He was in Mississippi geboren.Seine son of Robert Nighthawk under the name Samuel Lee McCollum mother left him at the age of one and a half years of custody of the Carr family, who adopted him and taunted on their farm. At the age of seven years, his father took him to performances where he danced during the breaks. After moving to Helena, the place where his father lived, he was a bouncer and also played bass in the group of his father.

At the age of 20 he married Doris and was leasehold farmers, after a dispute with the Administrator, the young couple moved to Chicago, after a short time they moved to St. Louis, where they lived with Carr's mother. Here he played bass in the band of harmonica player Tree Top Slim. He also formed his own band Little Sam Carr and the Blue Kings, played in the Early Bea, wife of Robert Nighthawk, drums, before Carr switch to this tool.

From 1956 on, he played regularly with Frank Frost. With guitarist Big Jack Johnson formed the three the Jelly Roll Kings. Their collaboration lasted until the death of Frost 1999. Then Carr played with various artists from Arkansas and was leader of his Delta Jukes. He had his last appearance in 2009 at the Mother's Best Festival in Helena, Arkansas. He died on 21 September 2009 in a nursing home in Clarksdale, Mississippi from a heart attack.
