Sam Chatmon

Sam Chatmon ( born January 10, 1897 in Bolton, Mississippi, † February 2nd 1983 in Hollandale, Mississippi) was an American blues musician.

Sam Chatmon was from the musical Chatmon family and began - as well as his brothers Bo and Lonnie - as a child, to make music. In addition to performances with the family and his brothers, he played with the Mississippi Sheiks. From the mid- 1930s he also appeared on solo. With various minstrel and medicine shows, he traveled through the country. In the 1940s, he settled as a farmer in Hollandale.

With the blues revival of the late 1950s and Sam Chatmon was rediscovered. He joined a number of festivals, gained a considerable popularity and published until his death in 1983, a whole series of shots.
