Sam Gopal

Sam Gopal (born 20 century in Malaysia) is a Malaysian tabla player who was involved in the 1960s with his bands " Sam Gopal Dream" and " Sam Gopal " in the development of the British psychedelic rock.

Biography

Born in Malaysia, Sam Gopal began at age seven, playing tabla. In 1962 he came to London as a music student. Mid-1960, he founded the band " Sam Gopal Dream," with Mick Huntchinson on guitar and Pete Sears on bass. Later, the keyboard player Andy Clark came about. Despite some recordings, the group soon broke apart.

Gopal put a new band called " Sam Gopal " together. Members were out Gopal Lemmy (guitar and vocals, later founder of Motörhead ), Roger D' Elia ( guitar) and Phil Duke ( bass). They brought out the album Escalator and the single horse, broke away but after only one year on.

A second version of the group " Sam Gopal ", compiled in 1969, existed alongside Gopal from Alan Mark (vocals), Mox Gowland ( harmonica, flute ), Micky Finn Waller (guitar) and Freddie Gandy ( bass).
