Sam O'Steen

Sam O'Steen ( born November 6, 1923 in Arkansas; † 11 October 2000 in Atlantic City, New Jersey) was an American editor and film director.

Life

His career in the film business he started as an assistant editor in the 1950s. Began in 1966 with the film Who 's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? its successful collaboration with the director Mike Nichols. For this work O'Steen was nominated for an Oscar. In 1968, he first worked with Roman Polanski together. Sam O'Steen was responsible for the cut to Rosemary's Baby. Their collaboration was repeated six years later in Chinatown. 1976 O'Steen directed a sequel to Rosemary's Baby, entitled Look What 's Happened to Rosemary's Baby. His debut as a director, he was in 1973 with the movie A Brand New Life.

Sam O'Steen was married and the father of four daughters.

Awards (selection)

In 1969 he won the BAFTA Film Award for The Graduate. He was nominated three times for an Oscar.
