Sam Phillips (musician)

Sam Phillips ( born January 28, 1962 in Glendale, California, as Leslie Ann Phillips ) is an American singer, musician, composer and actress.

At a young age Leslie Phillips discovered by religion their love of music. At the age of 14, she wrote to her first songs that were dominated by their faith and the problems in their family. After several years as a backing vocalist, she was taken in the eighties by the Christian label Myrrh Records. 1983 celebrated the then 20- year-old singer her debut with the album Beyond Saturday Night, which was very well received, especially in church circles.

Career

In 1987 she met her future husband and new producer T -Bone Burnett. Result of this collaboration was the poplastigere album The Turning, which represented a turning point for Phillips. Over time, Sam Phillips could no longer identify with the conservative Christian orientation of their label Myrrh Records, so that there was a separation of the record company. From now on, the musician called as in their teenage years "Sam" and found 1988 Virgin Records not only a new record company, but also a new musical style. The Indescribable Wow, was released the same year and found both the audience as well as critics very well received.

Four years later, Cruel Inventions, which contains a guest appearance by Elvis Costello, a friend of Sam Phillips, also the song Where The Colours Do not Go. Your first Grammy nomination followed in 1994 on the album Martinis and Bikinis, their third release on Virgin.

At the high point of her career arrived, Phillips ventured a detour into acting and was in the 1995 action film Die Hard - Now to see even more next to Bruce Willis as silent terrorist. In 1997 a small appearance in Wim Wenders' The End of Violence.

On request by Amy Sherman - Palladino, the creator of the television series Gilmore Girls, who wanted a distinctive musical guide for this dramedy, Sam Phillips was won for the project. Some of the contributed for the series of Phillips songs have appeared on the soundtrack of Our Little Corner Of The World. In addition, some of the songs from their albums were used for the series. Phillips played in this series twice a small guest role.

The album released in 1996 Omnipop followed, with the exception of the greatest hits album Zero Zero Zero, a longer hiatus. With the 2001 release, Fan Dance and the following three years later A Boot and a Shoe Sam Phillips turned to a more Acoustical instrumentation.
