Sam Riley

Sam Riley ( born January 8, 1980 in Leeds, England ) is a British actor.

Life

Sam Riley was born in 1980 as the son of a commercial agent for textiles and a kindergarten teacher in Leeds. He attended private boarding school in Uppingham and was the frontman of the Leeds rock band 10,000 Things, and the band Horned Owls, with whom he toured England. A summer spent Riley two weeks with the National Youth Theatre, and he turned to an acting career. After he was dismissed from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art as too young and inexperienced and his music band broke up, Riley worked in pubs and warehouses.

His breakthrough as an actor celebrated Riley with the main role as Ian Curtis in Control, the frontman of the band Joy Division. His performance in the film, in which he delivered the vocals himself was, with several accolades, including the young actor award at the British Independent Film Awards, at the Edinburgh International Film Festival and the London Film Critics Circle Awards. Also in the previously published film 24 Hour Party People about the band Joy Division, he played the role of Mark E. Smith. Many of his scenes were not included in the final theatrical version with. 2008 Riley played in the fantasy film Franklyn - The truth wears many masks one of the main roles. In 2010 he portrayed in the film adaptation of Graham Greene 's novel Brighton Rock starring Pinkie (director Rowan Joffe ). In 2012 he was in Neil Jordan's thriller Byzantium alongside Gemma Arterton and Saoirse Ronan in front of the camera. In the same year, he starred in On the Road - Heading the young writer Sal Paradise who makes a road trip through America with his friend. Supporting Actor were, among others, Garrett Hedlund and Kirsten Dunst. In 2014 he played in the Austrian production The dark valley, the main role of the Greider.

He is married since August 2009 with the German actress Alexandra Maria Lara, who he met on the set of Control. The couple lives in Berlin.
