Biology

Before hatching the yellowish white eggs turn blue black. The caterpillars feed in nature on ailanthus ( Ailanthus altissima ) in breeding but also on privet ( Ligustrum ), lilac (Syringa ) and laurel cherry (Prunus laurocerasus ).

They spin, like all other peacocks Spinner, a cocoon of silk. The moths live like all Saturniidae only one to two weeks because they can not feed.
