Samian vase painting

The Samian vase painting was a regional style of Greek vase painting and belonged to the eastern Greek vase painting.

On Samos vases were produced since the geometric time. In the Heraion were many geometric works, including craters on high foot, kantharoi, Kotylen, skyphoi and oinochoai with a round mouth. The Attic influence is recognizable by hatched meanders and four-blade Stars. Bird images are common, besides horses with typical Samos long mane to the center back. Once a prothesis is shown. The Sami ceramic occurs for the first time to 560/50 BC with forms show that they took over from the Attic pottery. It involves little master shells and kantharoi in face shape. The painting is precise and decorative. Samos was next to Miletus and Rhodes, one of the main centers of production of vases in the Wild Goat style ( "Wild Goat ").
