Samnium

Samnium ( Oscan Safinim ) was a landscape in the southern Apennines, home to the Samnites, a group sabellischer tribes who controlled the region 600-290 BC.

Samnium was surrounded by the landscapes in northern Lazio, Lucania in the south, Campania to the west and Apulia ( Puglia) to the east. The capital of the region was Maluentum, today's Benevento. This area, which is now partly in the Molise region, called in Italian Sannio today.
