Samo Chalupka

Samo Chalupka ( born February 27, 1812 in Horna Lehota, Kingdom of Hungary, now Slovakia, † May 10 1883 in Horna Lehota, Austria - Hungary) was a Slovak poet and a Protestant minister. He was the younger brother of Ján Chalupka and belonged to Stur - generation.

Chalupka studied in Gemer, Käsmark, Rosenau and finally at the Evangelical Lyceum in Bratislava ( theology and philosophy). He took part in the November Uprising in Poland and was wounded in the fighting in Galicia. After his return he eventually finished in 1834 his studies in Vienna.

Then in the years He was a Protestant chaplain in Chyžné, 1836-40 pastor in Jelšavská Teplica. After his father's death he took over the parish of Horna Lehota, where he served as pastor until his death.

Samo Chalupka died on 10 May 1883.
