Samos Prefecture

The Greek Samos Prefecture (Greek Σάμος ) was until 2010 one of the three prefectures of the Administrative Region of North Aegean. It was founded in 1915 from the islands of Samos and Ikaria ( Ικαριά ) as well as the archipelago Fourni Korseon ( Φούρνοι Κορσέων ) formed in the eastern Aegean. Administrative center of the prefecture was the city of Samos ( Σάμος ( f sg ) ) on the island of the same name. With the Greek administrative reform of 2010, the prefecture was abolished and in the two regional districts ( Ez gr Periferiaki enotita ) Samos (the island and municipality Samos) and Ikaria ( the municipalities of Ikaria and Fourni ) divided, however, apart from the seat allocation for the Regional have no political significance.

The prefecture was divided into eight municipalities (singular gr dimos δήμος ).
