Samsø cheese

Samsø is a Danish cheese made from pasteurized cow's milk.

It was created at the beginning of the 19th century through the initiative of the Danish king, who had a great interest in the production of cheese and Swiss cheese therefore brought into the country, should the Danes teach the cheese.

When the Danish farmers dominated the techniques, they established their own cheese, named after the island in the Great Belt Samsø, who is thus considered the archetype of Danish dairy Art.

Samsø has small holes and is often shaped like a Swiss cheese. The natural rind is sometimes covered with yellow wax. The maturity period is between three and six months.
