Samuel C. Phillips

Samuel Cochran Phillips ( born February 19, 1921 in Springerville, Arizona, † January 31, 1990 in Palos Verdes, California ) was an American general.

Life

Phillips went to Cheyenne, Wyoming, to school and studied engineering at the University of Wyoming before the Second World War. During World War II he was a fighter pilot and was stationed in England 1944/1945. After that he was stationed in Frankfurt am Main. Phillips was from 1964 to 1969 director of the Apollo Manned Lunar Lander Program at NASA during the Apollo program. From 1972 to 1973 he was director of the National Security Agency ( NSA). From 1973 to 1975 he was Commander of the Air Force Systems Command ( COMAFSC ).

Phillips was married and had three children.
