Samuel Hoffman

Samuel J. Hoffman ( born July 23, 1903 in Manhattan, † December 6, 1967 ) was an American doctor of podiatry and musicians. He became famous for his theremin for various soundtracks. His album Music Out of the Moon was one of two albums that took Neil Armstrong to the moon during the Apollo 11 flight.

Hoffmann worked as a doctor in Los Angeles.

Hoffmann had learned in his youth in Ovide music, the violin, and played under in a dance band for evening events. While still living in New York City, an acquaintance had given him a theremin, so as to induce a debt. Hoffmann founded in 1936 under the pseudonym Hal Hope a band with electronic instruments, nightlife gained some notoriety in New York. Hoffman played in the 9- man band changing violin and theremin, theremin but also the new Hal Hope made ​​it the talk of the town, and took care of presence in the coverage of the New York nightlife. Miklós Rózsa Hoffmann contacted the composer for the soundtrack to the film Spellbound.
