Samuel Roxy Rothafel

Samuel Lionel " Roxy " Rothafel ( born July 9, 1882 in Stillwater, Minnesota, † January 13, 1936, New York City, New York) was a manager and impresario of the silent movie palaces of New York.

Life

Samuel L. Rothafel was, among others, manager of the beach, Rialto, Rivoli, Capitol, and named after his nickname Roxy Theatre. In 1932, he joined with the majority of the artistic staff for newly opening Radio City Music Hall. His Girls troupe, the " Roxyettes " therefore had to be renamed the Rockettes.

Mitchell Marks of Rothafel 1914 Mark managed beach theater was the first " movie palace " in New York City.

Rothafel introduced many innovations of the silent film era one, about the action happening custom orchestral music and the multi- projector projection to avoid interruptions by the film spool change.
