Samuel Schoenbaum

Samuel Schoenbaum ( born March 6, 1927 in New York; † 27 March 1996 in Washington, DC ) was a Shakespeare scholar.

Life and work

Schoenbaum was born in New York and taught from 1953 to 1975 at Northwestern University and was there the last four years, " Frank Bliss Snyder Professor of English Literature ." The following year he taught at the City University of New York from 1976 to 1993 he was Professor of Renaissance Studies at the University of Maryland, 1981-1996 Director of the " Center for Renaissance and Baroque Studies" at this university: he was also President of the "Shakespeare Association of America ," Vice President of the " International Shakespeare Association " and editor of " Renaissance Drama ."
