San Callisto

San Callisto is a small church in the Trastevere district of Rome adjacent to the Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere. She wears the patronal feast of the holy Pope and Martyr Callistus I and has the rank of a titular church.

History

The present Baroque hall church of San Callisto was built in 1610 and designed by Orazio Torriani. Location and building are connected to the tradition of the martyrdom of St. Callistus. When Giuseppe Vasi it says ( 1761):

Architecture

San Callisto is a single-nave building without a tower. The side facing the east portal front shows in simple forms, the classical façade order of the Roman Baroque.
