San Cristóbal Hill

The Cerro San Cristóbal is a hill in the Bella Vista district of Santiago de Chile.

The hill rises to 880 meters above sea level and about 300 m above its base area and dominates the city of Santiago. Its ancient name was Tupawe, it was renamed by the Spanish conquistadors after Saint Christopher.

The summit is a popular destination that you can reach by car on a toll road, with a cable car or funicular railway on foot. From the summit you have a good view of the various neighborhoods of Santiago. At the summit there is a church, an amphitheater and a 22 m high statue of the Virgin Mary. Pope John Paul II celebrated a Mass in 1987.

At the foot of the mountain is the Zoo of Santiago.
