San Lorenzo al Mare

San Lorenzo al Mare ( in Ligurian: San Loénso ) is a municipality with 1380 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the northern Italian region of Liguria. Politically it belongs to the province of Imperia.

Geography

San Lorenzo al Mare is a small coastal village on the Riviera di Ponente. His settlement area extends both along the coast, as well as in the hilly hinterland and has a bird's eye perspective, the shape of an anchor with two town centers. By area, it is with little more than a square kilometer common land the smallest municipality in the province, but located on the population density in sixth place. From the provincial capital of Imperia San Lorenzo al Mare is about six kilometers away.

According to the Italian classification with respect to seismic activity, the community of Zone 2 has been assigned. This means that San Lorenzo al Mare is located in a seismically active zone moderate to strong.

Climate

The municipality is classified under climate category C, since the number of degree days has a value of 1191. This means that in Italy legally regulated heating season is between November 15 and March 31 for 10 hours per day.
