San Luis (Santa Cruz)

San Luis is a town in the department of Santa Cruz in the South American Andes State of Bolivia.

San Luis is the second largest city of the canton of La Angostura in the district ( bolivian: Municipio) El Torno in the province of Andrés Ibáñez. The village lies at an altitude of 629 m on the left bank of the river between the towns of El Torno Pirai and La Angostura. Northwest of the town, the high ridges of the Serrania San Luis rises to a height of 629 m.

Geography

San Luis is located in the tropical humid climate on the eastern edge of the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Oriental. The region was covered before colonization by subtropical rainforest, but today it is mostly cultivated land.

The mean average temperature of the region is 24 ° C, the annual precipitation is 950 mm (see climate chart La Angostura ). The monthly average temperatures vary between 20 ° C in July and 26 ° C in December and January, the monthly rainfall is productive from November to March and higher than 100 mm, the climate from June to September is arid with rainfall less than 40 mm.

San Luis is located at a distance of 43 kilometers of road south west of Santa Cruz, the capital of the department.

From the center of Santa Cruz from the paved highway Ruta 7 performs as a four-lane " Grigota Avenue " in a southwesterly direction through the towns of El Carmen, La Guardia and El Torno to San Luis, and on about La Angostura, Samaipata and Comarapa to Cochabamba.

Population

The population of the town has nearly doubled in the past two decades.

It amounted to 987 inhabitants at the 1992 census, then 1,387 inhabitants at the 2001 census and now 1,816 inhabitants ( 2009 estimate ).

Due to immigration history of the population, it presents a significant proportion of Quechua population in the municipality of El Torno 27.7 % of the population speak the Quechua language.
