San Pablo is an American city in Contra Costa County in the U.S. state of California.
Geography
San Pablo is located near the northern end of the Berkeley Hills and the Bay of San Pablo. It is almost completely surrounded by the city of Richmond. By San Pablo runs Interstate 80
History
Before the Spanish missions in California settled in this area the Muwekma Ohlone. At the end of the 18th century, the Spanish crown claimed the area and it fell as a gift to the Mission San Francisco de Asís. After Mexican independence from Spain, San Pablo was secularised and appropriated by the Governor of Upper California to the soldier Francisco María Castro. Even after the Mexican-American War, the Rancho San Pablo was owned by the Castro family.
