Sangis River

BW

Sangisälven (also Sangis älv ) is a river in Norrbotten County in northern Sweden.

The river carries in its upper course the name Raitajoki. This flows into the lake Miekojärvi.

As Kukasjoki he leaves it to the south, flows through several small lakes and is then called from Lappträsk Sangisälven. Its largest tributary, Korpikån meets at Björkfors on the Sangisälven. South of Sangis the river eventually empties into the Sangisfjärden, a bay of the Gulf of Bothnia.

The catchment area covers 1230 km ².

The river forms the border with the language Tornedalfinnisch. Sangisälven is suitable for exploring.
