Sani Bečirović

Sani BECIROVIC (born 19 May 1981 in Maribor, Yugoslavia ) is a Slovenian professional basketball player who plays at a height of 1.96 m on the position of the Shooting Guards.

Career

Sani BECIROVIC began his professional career at KK Bistrica, a Slovenian club with which he had already played in the youth departments. In 1996 he moved to Maribor Ovni where he stood for a year under contract. In 1997 BECIROVIC to KK Laško, where he remained for the next two seasons. 1999 signed players as established in Ljubljana Slovenian club Olimpija Ljubljana tip a contract. With Union Olimpija BECIROVIC was once Slovenian champion and twice won the national cup competition. In the summer of 2001, he moved BECIROVIC, after a brief interlude at KK Krka Novo mesto (2003/ 2004) eventually abroad. His first stop was about Italy, where he played for Virtus Bologna, Varese and Fortitude Bologna. 2002 won his first title outside Slovenia BECIROVIC with the Italian Cup. A low point presented here is the 2002/2003 season, when he turned out for a long time after a serious injury and forfeited his place in the club and the national team. At the end of this season, he was still selected in the NBA Drafts at 46th place of the Denver Nuggets. Between 2006 and 2008, the Slovenian played for Greek club Panathinaikos Athens tip, where he succeeded his compatriot Jaka Laković and won the triple in his first season.

Sani BECIROVIC is an integral part of the Slovenian national team and played a leading role in all the youth teams of Slovenia. For the first time he was able to draw attention to himself at the U18 European Championship in 1998, when he was elected with 28.1 points and 3.8 assists per game for the MVP of the tournament. In 2005 he occupied at the European Championships in Serbia with his team to sixth place.

Trivia

  • Bečirovičs father, Memi BECIROVIC, last coached the Slovenian first division club Union Olimpija. To a father-son duel took place in the 2006/2007 season as Sani with Panathinaikos, met in the preliminary round of the ULEB Euro League, trained by his father to the club. Both games were won by medics team.
