In the municipality of 421 inhabitants (as at 30 June 2011).

The municipality is part of the wine-growing region of the island of Pico. In 2004, the UNESCO, the viticulture of the island in the World Heritage List on.

History

In 1617 the church of Santa Luzia became independent.
