Santa Palomba transmitter

Santa Palomba is a village in the province of Rome, and a part of the city of Pomezia. End 2010 1.359 inhabitants were counted.

Transmitter

Santa Palomba since 1929 was the site of a large medium wave transmitter of the transmitter network operator Raiway. From Santa Palomba the program of RAI was irradiated on the medium wave frequency 846 kHz ( in digital mode DRM) and 1332 kHz ( analog) that were well received in Germany in the evenings.

As antenna support three antenna systems were used namely a grounded free standing 186 meter high lattice tower with Reuse antennas, a directional antenna of three guyed each 116 meters high towers and a 75 -meter high grounded free-standing lattice tower.

The 186 -meter-high tower served as an operating antenna for the frequency 846 kHz and had two superposed independently Reuse can be fed antennas which a radiation with low -angle radiation permitted ( shrinkage -reducing antenna). The directional antenna with the 116 meter high towers was used for the dissemination of the program on the medium wave frequency 1332 kHz. The equipped with a cage antenna 75 meter high steel framework tower served as a reserve antenna for both frequencies. By 14 April 2000, the frequency 846 kHz was 1200 kW and the frequency 1332 kHz with 600 kW of power after they were forced to shut down due to excessive enormous radiation levels that endangered the health of the population by a bailiff. The transmission system was commissioned on 13 May 2000 again with a reduced transmission power in operation, but had to be shut down on 15 August. Once again was followed by a re-commissioning, the administrative court procured the shutdown of the medium wave transmitter for the frequency 846 kHz for March 9, 2003 at 6 clock, the frequency 1332 kHz, which was operated at 300 kW was not affected. In early April 2003, the station was re- taken for thee frequency 846 kHz with greatly reduced power of 75 kW in operation, but for the time being completely shut down on 15 May 2004.

On the 846 kHz Radio 2 and Rai Isoradio was from January to mid- May 2008 Rai radiated as a package, the available bit rate of about 23 kbit / s had to be divided between the two programs, however, so the sound quality suffered, before that it was since January 31, 2007 again an analog program with low-power operation.

Having already was no longer available the 186 meter high steel truss tower in August of 2012, the remaining masts are demolished since June 2013.
