Shantarakshita ( Tib. zhi ba ' tsho; Keeper of Peace; * 8th century ) was one of the most important philosophers of the Indian and Tibetan Buddhism. He was invited to the time of King Thrisong Detsen to Tibet, where he founded together with Padmasambhava, the first Buddhist monastery in Tibet Samye, whose abbot he was. The best-known literary work Shantarakshita is his fundamental work of Yogachara Madhyamika school Madhyamakalamkara ( "jewel of the middle [Teaching ]"), in which the Yogacara system of Asanga and the Madhyamaka philosophy of Nagarjuna are interconnected.
