Vila Nova de Santo André or shortly Santo André is a Portuguese parish and town ( Cidade ), which belongs to the district of Santiago do Cacém. It occupies an area of 75.1 km ² and has 10,605 inhabitants (as of 30 June 2011) which gives a population density of 141 inhabitants per km ².

History

The town received its charter in 2003. The municipality of Santo André also the nature reserve around the Lagoa de Santo André heard ( a natural lagoon lake with sea water) and the beach town of Santo André, with miles of sandy beach, has which gained momentum in recent years more and more importance in terms of tourism activities.

The actual town of Vila Nova de Santo André is located a few kilometers from the coast to the hinterland. The city was built along with the petrochemical industrial complex of Sines, so many workers and employees of the industrial site live there.
