Santo Sepolcro (Pisa)

Santo Sepolcro (Holy grave ) is a Romanesque church in the Tuscan city of Pisa in Italy.

History

The earliest mention of the church dates from the year 1113. It was built by the builder Diotisalvi in the 12th century for the local branch of St John as central building modeled on the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem Church. However, the octagonal outer layout of the building to the inner rotunda also has parallels to Jerusalem Dome of the Rock, which was since the conquest of the city by the Crusaders in 1099 in Christian hands. By archbishop Dagobert of Pisa, later Patriarch of Jerusalem, the church relics was given.

1720, the church was in the Baroque style. In 1900 century, these measures, as well as a surrounding Renaissance arcades were removed.
