São João de Meriti is a municipality in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro. In 2008 lived in São João de Meriti 468 309 inhabitants. With a population density of 13,236.9 people per square kilometer, the municipality is one of the most densely populated of Brazil.

Geography

São João de Meriti has an area of 34.8 km ² and is located in the Baixada Fluminense region in the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro.

The surrounding municipios are Belford Roxo, Duque de Caxias, Mesquita, Nilópolis and Rio de Janeiro.
