Covering an area of 12.6 km ² live 2698 inhabitants (as at 30 June 2011) in the community was / is equivalent to a population density of 214.2 inhabitants km ².

The municipality of São Miguel is, together with the Municipality of São Pedro, the urban area of Vila Franca do Campos dar.

In São Miguel is based inter alia the municipality ( Câmara Municipal or Paços do Concelho ). In addition, the small offshore island of Ilheu de Vila Franca do Campo belongs to the municipality.
