São Sebastião da Pedreira is a Portuguese parish ( freguesia ) on the 3rd Bairro the capital Lisbon. It is surrounded by the neighboring communities Campolide, Nossa Senhora de Fátima, São Jorge de Arroios, Coração de Jesus and São Mamede. The Freguesia exists since 1601, its name refers to presence of an ancient chapel there in honor of St. Sebastian (São Sebastião ).

Attractions and other important facilities

The main and largest part of the municipality is the Parque Eduardo VII, whose namesake Edward VII visited Portugal in 1903. To give the good relations between the United Kingdom and Portugal, a symbol, the city government named the city park after the British monarch. There regularly finds the Feira do Livro, a regional book fair, held. North adjacent is the Jardim Amália Rodrigues, as well as a park in memory of the famous fado singer.

The Freguesia itself was or is in Lisbon very well known for a high birth rate to own, because the maternity hospital Maternidade Alfredo da Costa is located in the eastern part of the district. The 1932 opened clinic belongs to one of six Lisbon maternity hospitals. On June 1, 1988, the date of the child, provided the local government a statue named " Mães " ( mothers) in front of the clinic, designed by artist Rogério Machado da Fonseca.

Also located in the district nor the Casa Museu Dr. Anastácio Gonçalves, a built 1904-05 exhibition gallery, which mainly paintings by Portuguese artists of the 19th and 20th centuries such as Alfredo Keil, Columbano Bordalo Pinheiro, Tomás Anunciação and Miguel Ângelo Lupi shows. Also located on the eastern side of Parque Eduardo VII of the Pavilhão Carlos Lopes, the 1929-1932 reconstructed Portugal Pavilion at the World Expo 1922 in Rio de Janeiro, which is mainly for sports and cultural events, such as the Roller Hockey World Cup 1947, used. He bears the name of the first Portuguese Olympic champion in long distance running, Carlos Lopes.

Traffic

The community is well integrated verkehrlich by several large main roads in the road system of the Portuguese capital. Mention may be made especially the major arterial roads Avenida António Augusto de Aguiar, Avenida Fontes Pereira de Melo, Avenida Duque d' Ávila and the courts Praça Marquês de Pombal, Saldanha and Praça de Espanha.

Due to the relatively geographically central location of the Freguesia crossroads of several metro lines of the Lisbon Metro, the community, the Linha Azul ( blue line) and the Linha Amarela ( Yellow Line ). There are five underground stations in the community, Marquês de Pombal, Parque São Sebastião, Picoas and Saldanha. Numerous bus lines of the urban Carris open up as well as the community.
