São Vicente is about 50 km southeast of the city of São Paulo, a city in the Brazilian state of São Paulo. The place is located both on the mainland and in the West the namesake island, which in turn is part of the eastern port city of Santos. Covering an area of 148 km ² live about 314.000 inhabitants (estimated 2003). Since 1914, the island and the mainland are connected by a bridge. São Vicente is part of the metropolitan region of Baixada Santista.

São Vicente was in 1532 the first permanent Portuguese colony in the Americas and was important for the supply of the colony with slaves. Till now, but there are very few historical monuments of this past.

The city is officially a spa ( Estancia BALNEARIA ). The economy of the town with its five beaches is determined by tourism, although still to a lesser extent fishing is operated. For many workers employed in Santos São Vicente serves as Schlaftstadt.
