Sarah Louise Rung

Paralympics winner (2012 )

Sarah Louise Rung ( born October 8, 1989 in Stavanger ) is a Norwegian swimmer, who trains at Madla Svømmeklubb in Stavanger.

Since 2008 Rung is a paraplegic as a result of a failed back surgery at the University Hospital Haukeland in Bergen. In 2010 she won a silver medal in the 100 m freestyle and three gold medals each 50m butterfly and 200m freestyle as well as in new world record time ( class SB 4) of 1:52,64 min over 100 m breaststroke at the world swimming championships for disabled people in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. In all four disciplines they put it on a new Norwegian national record.

In the IPC Swimming European Championships 2011 in Berlin she won the title over 200m medley and in a new world record time of 1:48,42 min over 100 m breaststroke.

In their first appearance at the 2012 Paralympics in London swimmer won the 50m butterfly and 200m freestyle as well as two gold over 200m medley and 100m breaststroke two silver medals. In the same year she was honored as the first disabled athlete to the Aftenposten gold medal.

In Sports Gala ( Idrettsgallaen ) of the Norwegian Sports Association Rung in Hamar was named 2011 and 2012 disabled athlete of the year ( Årets kvinnelige funksjonshemmede idrettsutøver ). In addition to the category disabled athlete of the year, it is the sports gala 2013 ( navn Årets ) for the second time in a row in the main category Sportsman of the Year nomination.
