The Sarajevo Airport ( IATA: SJJ, ICAO:. IQSa; bosn Međunarodni aerodrom Sarajevo, Sarajevo- Butmir also ) is the international airport of Sarajevo, capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is operated by the Bosnia and Hezegovina Directorate of Civil Aviation and serves as the home base of the B & H Airlines.
History
The capture of the airport by the Yugoslav People's Army in the night of 4 to 5 April 1992, for four years ongoing siege of Sarajevo during the Bosnian War.
In 2005 there were plans by the Bosnian government to name the airport after Alija Izetbegovic. This has been denied by the former High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina Paddy Ashdown on the grounds that this is tantamount to a challenge against the other ethnic groups in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Location and Transport
The airport is located about eight kilometers southwest of the center of Sarajevo in the district of the Canton of Sarajevo -listed town of Ilidža. He has the kurta Sorka 36 has road access.
