Sarawak surili

The Sarawak Langur ( Presbytis chrysomelas ) is a primate of the group of monkeys Slim ( Presbytini ).

Sarawak langurs are like all Mützenlanguren relatively small, slender primates with long hind legs and a long tail. There are two subspecies, which differ in coat color: P. c. chrysomelas has a blackish fur and P. c. cruciger is reddish colored with black and white drawings do in the face.

Sarawak langurs are endemic to Borneo. But you live despite its name not only in the Malaysian state of Sarawak, but also in Sabah and in the northwest of the Indonesian part of the island, Kalimantan. Their habitat is forests.

Little is known about the way of life, but it should match the other Mützenlanguren. Consequently, these animals are diurnal and arboreal, which can become adept move in the branches. They live in small groups, which are composed of one male, several females and the corresponding offspring. Their diet consists of young leaves, fruits and other plant parts.

The systematics of Southeast Asian Mützenlanguren is not yet fully understood. Only since 2001, the Sarawak Langur is recognized as a separate species, formerly it was attributed to the binding or the Sumatran Langur. About the level of risk is not known, the IUCN lists both subspecies under "too little data available ". In particular, the subspecies P. c. but cruciger likely to be very rare and occur only in Maludam National Park.
