Sarfannguit

Sarfannguit outdated, even Sarfannguaq or Sarfánguaq is a settlement in western Greenland.

The Greenlandic name means "little channel " and points to the location on a narrow strait between the mainland and the small island Sarfannguit Nunataat connecting the Imartuninnguaq fjord with the Ikertooq Fjord. The village was founded in 1843 for the purpose of the cod fishery. The population is 124 people (as of 2012). In Sarfannguit there are several Inuit ruins. The place is also an important base on one of the most popular trekking routes in Greenland, the Arctic Circle Trail, which runs from Kangerlussuaq to Sisimiut. The main industries are fishing and hunting ( musk ox, reindeer, seals ).

Until the formation of the Commune Qeqqata 2009, the settlement was an independent municipality Sisimiut.
