Sarrazac (Lot)

Sarrazac ( Occitan: Sarrasac ) is a southern French village with 302 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Lot in the Midi-Pyrénées region.

Location

Sarrazac located in the extreme north of the Quercy and the department of Lot, close to the Correze. Up to the canton capital Martel is just under 13 km ( driving distance ) in a southerly direction; a further 20 kilometers to the south is the medieval pilgrimage site of Rocamadour.

Demographics

In the 19th century Sarrazac sometimes had more than 1,400 inhabitants; at the beginning of the 20th century, there were still about 900 agricultural mechanization and the resulting loss of jobs attended in the past for a significant population decline.

Economy

Sarrazac was and is still dominated by agriculture to a large extent, with the livestock (cattle, pigs, poultry) plays a dominant role. Since the 1960s, tourism also contributes in the form at the rental of apartments ( gîtes ) to the revenues of the place.

History

On the history of the village no details are available.

Attractions

  • The rural, built in Gothic style, simple shapes parish church dates from the 13th/14th century. Century. The portal area was rebuilt in the 19th century. The church is recognized as a monument historique since 1947.
  • The Château de Crozes is located east of the village and dates - despite the use of rubble and the late medieval overall impression - mostly from the 19th century. It is recognized as a monument historique since 1999.
  • In about two kilometers west village L' Hôpital -Saint -Jean are a Romanesque portal from the 13th and a dead lantern from the 16th century.
