Sárvár

Sarvar [ ʃa ː rva ː r] ( German: Kotenburg or Red Tower at the Raab ) is a city in Hungary. It lies on the road 84 between Sopron ( Sopron ) and Lake Balaton in Vas County. The city has about 15,600 inhabitants and is the county town as an administrative center.

History

The western Hungarian city was very important in the late Middle Ages. It has one of the few Hungarian water castles. The city's name, which could be applied with "mud castle " might suggest that the fortress was the nucleus of the city and was originally located in a marsh and moorland at the confluence of Güns and Raba. Also plausible, however, would be the translation of Sarvar as " Lehmburg ". The type of Lehmburg with palisades on a mound was in use at least in the early medieval Hungary.

During the Renaissance, the city was the center of the Hungarian Reformation.

Castle

The castle-like former water Nádasdy Castle was built in the Renaissance around 1560 instead of an older facility and later Baroque style. At the beginning of the 17th century here lived Elizabeth Báthory. In the ceremonial hall of the plant the victorious battles of her husband Ferenc Nádasdy, the " Black Knight ", against the Turks have shown in pictures of the Viennese painter Hans Rudolf Mueller of 1653. The last owner of the castle were the Bavarian Wittelsbach.

Resort and thermal spa

Sarvar is located in the Hungarian baths road that leads from Sopron to Keszthely and Hévíz about Buk at Lake Balaton. The city is now home to a modern spa. Culture and sights
