Saser Kangri (or Sasir Kangri ) is a mountain massif in the Karakoram in the north of India in Saser Muztagh, the southeastern sub-chain, the Karakorum.

Mountains and peaks

  • Saser Kangri I having 7,672 m
  • Saser Kangri II East Peak with 7518 m; West peak with the 7500 m.
  • Saser Kangri III with 7,495 m
  • Saser Kangri IV with 7,416 m

Saser Kangri I, II, and III are separate mountains, Saser IV is a secondary summit of Saser I.

Climbing history

Saser Kangri I

Saser Kangri I was first climbed on June 5, 1973 an Indian- Tibetan Border Police team.

Saser Kangri II

The western peak of Saser Kangri II was first climbed in 1953 by Nawang Gombu from an Indo -Japanese climbing team. The eastern summit was first climbed on 24 August 2011 by Mark Richey, Steve Swenson and Freddie Wilkinson. Up to this point, the eastern summit of Saser Kangri II was the second highest unclimbed mountain in the world.

Saser Kangri III

The Saser Kangri III was first climbed by an Indian rope team from the East. The Saser Kangri IV was first climbed on June 6, 1987 by a British-Indian expedition.
