Sasha (DJ)

Sasha ( born September 4, 1969 in Bangor, Wales, real name Alexander Paul Coe ) is a Welsh DJ and record producer in the field of progressive trance and house music.

Biography

Sasha grew up with his mother in the Welsh village of Hawarden. At age 17, he passed the entrance exams for the Epsom College, which he left but before he reached the advanced level. Instead, he moved to Bangor to his father and his stepmother.

For the first time in contact with electronic dance music came Sasha 1988 in Haçienda in Manchester. He bought soon after first acid house plates and taught himself to mix. He soon had his first DJ bookings in the Haçienda. In 1993 he published Together, his first single under the pseudonym Sasha.

In 1993, he also met John Digweed, with whom he often hung together in the following years. They went on tour and released several compilations. A highlight was their Delta Heavy Tour 2002 in the United States. They played in 31 cities and in front of around 85,000 people.

2002 Sasha worked with Junkie XL together for the single Breezer. Junkie XL, along with Charlie May, also assisted Sasha on his debut album, Airdrawndagger. After the release of his album, he took the young DJ James Zabiela under contract. With him, also, he toured through the United States.

Sasha was from 1997 to 2008 always in the top 10 of the Top 100 DJs by DJ Mag and won the election in 2000. 2009, he came in 13th place for his remix of Felix da Housecat Watching Cars Go By Sasha received a Grammy nomination.
