Satellite chromosome

In Genetics and Cytology the term satellite means the end portion on the short arm of a chromosome is defined by a secondary constriction of the rest of the chromosome.

Satellite only occur in so-called satellite chromosomes (SAT - chromosomes). The constrictions, which form the satellite can include ribosomal DNA and as Nukleolusorganisatorregion (NOR ) denotes.
